This guy is a bad dude not just an Octopus

Okay, so I said the Tursas disc from Westside was next and here it is. I did some research to understand why Westside Discs used an octopus on this disc. I was pretty sure Tursas was a God. I was not wrong, Wikipedia says:"Iku-Turso (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈikuˌturso], "the eternal Turso"; also known as Iku-Tursas, Iki-Tursas, Meritursas, Tursas, Turisas among others) is a malevolent sea monster in Finnish mythology. Nowadays Meritursas means octopus in Finnish, named after Iku-Turso, but originally tursas is an old name for walrus while the more common term is mursu. However, it is more common to see the word Mustekala (lit. "ink fish"), the name of its Subclass Coleoidea in Finnish, for the octopus." From all that I decided to make the God version for this disc. Half Walrus man half octopus, all badass! I put in a couple sketches and a full color disc. Let me know what you think. Keeping with a Nordic theme Innova's Viking disc will be next.

A bolder MACE!

I started to redesign existing discs, that I felt could use a little more excitement. The first is Latitude 64's MACE. This is just for my portfolio, this is not a commissioned design I wanted to use this opportunity to show off my style, without the restriction of a specific subject matter. I did a full color and Black & White version. You can see how much the image changed from the original sketch, this pretty common when I transfer from paper to the computer. I hope you all like it, if you are impressed and need a disc designed please let me know. All feedback is appreciated and very helpful. Thank You, Next Up the TURSAS!

New Client, great things to come

The disc golf community is all about make new friends and I have made a lot over the past three years. One of those friends is Ken Olsen. Ken hooked me up the his club the Cary Area Disc League or CADL, and the guy in charge Jay Pointer. Jay had an idea for a great shirt, and needed a wow factor for the back. I knew I could do it, because Jay wanted a tribal image and I have done quite a few over the years. He also wanted the clubs mantra involved " Volunteer, Build, Throw, Win " I did not think text on the back of the shirt would work with the style of the cattle skull so I blended the words into the skull. First response from everyone has been great, can not wait for these shirts. Special Thanks to Jay and Ken. These guys are doing big things for disc golf in this area of NC and I for one applaud all the hard work. There is talk of a disc design in the summer, new image for that. Enjoy.

Big Valley Challenge 2015

I was asked to do a new design for the 2015 Big Valley Challenge, run by the Bull City Disc Club TD Tony Ivey. I did last year's design so of course I want to do it again and try something different. Last year's design was actually a redesign of the club's logo, so this year I wanted to make it fun a more of a character design. I went with a rodeo bull style draw from a photo then recreated in Illustrator for a cleaner look. I hope you like it, and come out to the Big Valley Challenge at Valley Spring DGC in Durham, NC on June 6th & 7th. It is a great course and a fun Tournament.

Back Home in NJ

I was born in New Jersey and lived there for 35 years, but never played Disc Golf there. I started playing Disc Golf 3 years ago in North Carolina. A couple weekends ago I finally played a tournament in NJ. The tournament was the Disc'n for Dogs at Rutgers University. Great cause, they raise money to buy bullet proof vest for police dogs all over the country. Had a lot of fun, played okay, and met some cool people. The Two John's Production team put on a good tournament and would definitely play this one again. Big shout out to Capital K-9, keep up the good work.
